About

A practice built around the relationship.

Feel August is a California psychiatric practice for adults who have decided to take their inner life seriously. Sixty-minute first conversations. The same clinician, every visit going forward. A bill you can read in one sentence.

The name

What “feel august” means.

August is an adjective before it is a month. It means dignified, venerable, the kind of attention that earns reverence. We picked it as a name because mental health is one of the things in a life that earns that kind of attention, and very little of how the system delivers psychiatric care reflects that.

The person who walks into a psychiatric appointment has done the hard part already. They have noticed that something is not right and decided to take it seriously. That decision is not small. The practice exists to match it with care that takes the time it takes.

The patient is the august one. The clinic accompanies.

Everything that follows on this site is downstream of that frame. The hour-long first visit. The same clinician every visit. The plan written within 24 hours. The bill that does not surprise you. None of it is hospitality. It is the working definition of care taken seriously.

Why we started

The standard of care, and what we kept seeing instead.

ArthurPortrait · spring 2026

I trained inside a system that gives a clinician seven minutes for an evaluation and fifteen for a refill. The clinicians I learned from were skilled. The schedule made the care impossible.

Every diagnostic question that mattered required time we did not have. So the shorthand took over. A symptom name, a medication, a follow-up in a month. Whether the medication was working got two minutes of attention. Whether the diagnosis had been right in the first place got none.

I founded Feel August around the standard of care I would want for myself. Sixty-minute first visits. The same clinician every visit going forward. Care that scrutinizes the whole regimen instead of adding to it.

The clinicians who joined the practice did so because they had been looking for the same thing. We are three PMHNP-BCs licensed in California, and we work the way we wanted to work all along.

How the practice runs

The rules we set early.

Continuity is one of them. Here are the others.

The first visit is sixty minutes.

Not forty-five with a fifteen-minute intake tacked on. The hour is the conversation.

The same person, every visit.

Continuity is the practice. Ninety-eight out of a hundred of our patients stay with their first clinician for every visit that follows.

A written plan within 24 hours.

What you discussed, what is next, any prescriptions. Short on purpose.

A bill you can read in one sentence.

The amount we email you after you book is the amount you will pay. No balance billing.

Medications are scrutinized, not stacked.

If a medication fits the picture, you will leave with one. If it does not, we tell you why.

Honest scope.

We are not a crisis service, and we do not see patients under 18. We do not provide substance use disorder treatment or eating disorder programs as standalone services, though we can manage co-occurring substance use as part of psychiatric care where appropriate.

The practice as an entity

Feel August and Artful Living.

Feel August is the brand. The legal clinical entity is Artful Living Psychiatry & Wellness Nursing and Clinical Care Inc. The two coexist permanently. Feel August licenses the brand from Artful Living, which is the body that holds the clinical licenses, the malpractice coverage, and the regulatory standing.

In practical terms: when you see Feel August in our voice and on our materials, that is the practice you are working with. When you see Artful Living on an insurance statement or a regulatory filing, that is the same practice in its legal form.
